This website is a very well-done tutorial on learning how to program. It uses concepts that are applicable to many languages, and its a great way to get started. Maybe best of all is that it teaches you in Ruby, the base of Ruby on Rails (the future of web development)!
I am just looking at Ruby and still prefer python, but looks fun.
