However, Who invented the second airplane or who was the second man to break the four minute mile? If you have a vision that you want to see come true for you, Then you need to "believe" in your vision. So what you should be saying is... 'I'll see it when I believe it." Whatever you vision for yourself, you must “believe” in it and then You'll “see” it come true. VISION BIG! Be-Aholic Peter Remington

Once upon a time there was a man who lived on the streets.  He had one old sweater and a torn pair of old jeans.  There were holes everywhere.

Over the years teams of street ministers would try to get him to come in to the shelter to get some new clothes but to no avail.

Everyone could see he needed to change his clothes; everyone but the man himself.  They cajoled him. They pleaded with him.  They prayed for him.

One team even bought new jeans for the man and tried to get him to put them on for his own good.

But instead of being grateful for such caring and loving acts of human kindness, the man just got angrier and angrier.

Soon, even the kindest street teams stopped reaching out to him.  Then one very cold winter night an ambulance driver picked the near frozen old man up and drove him to the emergency room.

Once there, the driver asked the old man why he would never accept the new clothes, why he would never change.  And the old man replied, "These were my fathers jeans I just didn't know anything else would fit."

On some level, in business or in our relationships, sometimes we are wearing our father's "genes".  It takes a very brave leader to look at his torn "genes" and choose to throw them off.

Perhaps you got the "anger" genes or the "I am always right" genes.  Maybe you got the "I am a failure genes" or the "you will never succeed" genes.

You may have gotten the "it's my way or the highway" genes.  At first we do not realize we are wearing someone else's "genes".  We just pick it up from our parents or our other relatives or our teachers or our coaches.

But eventually, we are doing things just the way they did with the same results.  Relationships get shattered and success eludes us despite our valiant efforts.

I know this is true because I saw my own father wear his father's "genes".  Despite being a charming brilliant man, he was an angry man.  It was in the last year of his life when he finally asked me for help.  He said, "I don't know what to do, I don't know what to do."

My answer to him was simply, "Just say you are sorry.  Just say you are sorry."  After a short pause my father said, "I'm sorry...I am sorry."

That day, he shed his father's "genes".  Within a month he died.  The morning of his death he called me at the office, which he never did.  We had a very pleasant chat.  He died soon after the call.

My father only got to wear his new "genes" for a very few days.  Please don't wait that long to receive the gift that comes with your new "genes".  Live the life God has planned for you and don't live the broken life of your relatives and teachers.

God has a plan and a purpose for your life and I am convinced that overcoming your family "genes" may be a part of His plan for you.

Just say you are sorry, ask for forgiveness.  Accept the loving care of God's ministers of peace, His angles.  God loves you.

God's purpose never fails.

Be on Purpose,

Here's a way to craft your pitch where it's not a pitch. When asked "What do you do for a living?"I would say "I decided to spend more time being a dad, so I am building a business from home that some other dads told me about, and it's the best decision of my life!"When they ask "What type of business?"Then I would say... "You know how people need funding for their startup but they cannot get money from private equity nor banks? Well most people don't know where to go from there. We fund them what they need when they need it for as much as they need it without taking equity nor being debt on their books. We help them buy up all of these boomer generation companies for sale to grow at an amazing pace too. Isn't that amazing?"Do you see what I'm doing here? I am not coming off like a salesperson, but rather describing the benefits of what we offer, wrapped into my answer. Often people will ask further questions and express interest. Tony Schwartz, New York Times Best Selling author of the book The Power of Full Engagement, says: "By checking your e-mail first, you effectively turn over your agenda to others. It is far better to decide what your agenda ought to be the night before and make that the first thing you focus on at work, without interruption, for up to 90 minutes." "If you must check e-mail when you get up because there are urgent messages, scan quickly for anything that truly cannot wait an hour. Answer those, ignore the rest, and then do what’s truly most important."

Office 365 subscription? LibreOffice? Open Office? Google Docs?

I am a recovering geek. I don't own nor operate any IT services companies right now. However I am buying them.

Having said that, I cannot figure out the business case to use Office 365 over LibreOffice or Open Office or Google Drive.

Personally, I use Google Drive almost exclusively. I pay for more storage, but I like the cross-platform support and collaboration.

Why pay for inferior service?

Self-Improvement Journey

In 2012, because of a new business project, I began to put much more effort into personal development.  I figured it would be good to share my personal development journey.

But, it is way more important who you are talking with than that I share at all.  So, let me introduce myself.

Today, I might be considered a successful person.

"A winner knows how much he still has to learn even when he is considered and expert by others. A loser wants to be considered and expert by others before he has learned enough to know how little he knows." Sydney J. Harris

But, I grew up the first son of a single mother who had to work 4 jobs to make ends meet most of my young life. When I was 5 she worked 4 jobs and carried a full load in her education masters program while on the dean's list. When I was in junior high and high school, she worked 4 jobs just to keep food on the table. Then she started a venture when I graduated high school that is now a 25 year old company that has funded 1000s of companies and billions of dollars.

I own 10 different companies in different stages of success. But, I count my success in the time I get to spend with my family and the success stories I have created in my funding clients and in my sales teams.

So, maybe my journey in self-improvement might be of some use to others.  Like I said, my current journey in personal development started with a new business project 2 years ago.  Before that, I am not so sure I was aware of personal development per se. I think I read books that some would say I should read, but no one had told me to read them. I just found them. I read books like The Magic of Thinking Big and Think and Grow Rich. I read others like Never Eat Alone and How to Win Friends and Influence People.

It frustrates me to know that I might have had even more success than I have had if someone had encouraged me to read personal development books much earlier.  Of course, personally I am a Christian and of course I read the quintessential personal development book we call our Bible.  But, I learned the hard way the value of personal development.

I don't like to read much. Prior to two years ago, I mostly read fiction outside of reading the Bible.  So, when this business project brought the awareness of my lack of development to the forefront, I began to read like I have never read before. I began reading on subjects like leadership, encouragement, happiness, business success, case studies, biographies, how-to books, and anything I could get my hands on. For instance, one time I heard Will Smith, a personal development mentor from a distance of mine, that he read the book called The Alchemist, I immediately began a search for it. I found that it was so old that it was out of print and could only find a PDF of it online. I read that one book all the way through as quick as possible.

Now, I am in the middle of close to 20 books at any one time and re-reading several in that list for multiple times.

I had heard that "Leaders are Readers" but it sounded trite. As I started reading more, I began to agree with that saying. How can a man get better without looking in the mirror? And, reading a book is like looking the mirror of someone else's life and journey.

So, the first part of my journey was to find time to read and not take away from my family and my businesses. I began to wake up "earlier" and stay up later to get more "me time" in and work on me instead of me just working.

As I share this journey from time to time, I want to share books that I have found valuable, and I want to share lessons that you can take away from my journey.

  • Begin to read today.
  • Find a personal development mentor or coach either in person or virtually like in a book or on youtube or in audios you can listen to.
  • Find accountability partners who will ask you how your commitment to personal development is coming.
  • But, find time no matter how short a time, and no matter when you can find it even if it is listening from your phone as you drive down the road, but find time for personal development in your life.
I don't currently have any personal development books for sale. I am not trying to sell you anything.

Please share and comment and let others know about your journey too.
