Fwd: How Obama shelved babies' lives

I had to forward this message.

It makes me sick to consider that we would treat human life like this in America.  I thought China was the only place that treated babies this way.  Granted they eat aborted fetuses and that is worse, but letting surviving babies die in utility closets?  I am sick.

I cannot have that in my white house.

Obama says National Right to Life is lying about his record.

Dear Friend of Life,

On Saturday, August 16, 2008, Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama publicly accused the National Right to Life Committee of lying and distorting his record on legislation to protect infants who survive abortions.  National Right to Life, of which Texas Right to Life is the state affiliate, posted proof on its website www.NRLC.org that Senator Obama is lying about his voting record.

The Born-Alive Infants Protection Act was crafted to ensure that all babies who are born-alive after surviving an abortion are given life-sustaining medical treatment.  The measure was pursued after Jill Stanek, a registered nurse at an Illinois hospital, exposed the routine practice of abandoning babies who survived abortions to die in utility closets.

The measure passed unanimously in the U.S. Senate, overwhelmingly by voice vote in the U.S. House, and was signed into law in August 2002.  This was the only Pro-Life legislation to see the light of day while pro-abortion Tom Daschle was presiding over the Senate.

The controversy centers on Obama's opposition to this measure.  While the U.S. Congress was working to protect babies who miraculously survive abortions, back in Illinois, Obama was busy guaranteeing the opposite fate for these babies.  In 2001 and 2002, Obama could only speak and vote against the state version of the Born Alive Infants Protection.  In 2001, he was the sole senator to speak against the bill on the Illinois Senate floor.

In 2003, Obama acquired the power to kill the bill when he was appointed chairman of the Illinois Senate Health & Human Services Committee, to which the bill was sent.  As committee chair, he had ample opportunities to consider the bill for a vote, but Obama actively shelved and re-shelved the bill to die—ironically, the same fate he sealed for live babies who survive abortions.

Finally, on March 12, 2003, Obama voted in favor of an amendment to add the "neutrality clause" to the bill.  The committee then voted on the entire bill, which, because of the amendment, was now identical to the federal version.  Obama voted with five other members against the bill, ensuring that infants who survive an abortion are not given the same basic rights as all other human beings outside of the womb.

This bill that Obama voted against was identical to measures he said he would support if given the opportunity.

Obama was then elected to the U.S. Senate, and only because of his departure, the Illinois Born Alive Infants Protection Act passed the State Legislature and was signed into law in August of 2005.

Barack Obama is not personally opposed to abortion or even simply pro-choice; Obama is unapologetically pro-abortion, zealously favoring unrestricted abortion for all pregnant women and girls and demanding that tax-payers fund the abortion industry.  Barack Obama's actions prove he holds a viewpoint more extreme than any other pro-abortion legislator and the vast majority of Americans who believe children who are born-alive after an abortion are entitled to the same rights as all others.  Additionally, Obama's recent outbursts in the media prove a willingness to lie to cover up his easily-verifiable record as well as his readiness to viciously attack those who disagree with the actions he has taken.

Parts of this story were taken from JillStanek.com, Jill's column posted on WorldNetDaily, and National Right to Life on which the documents proving his voting record and his position on abortion can be found.
